The Power of Ideas

This forum is for submitting ideas for our G-Wizard Software and Voting on them.

How can we improve our G-Wizard software? (Please tell us which package)

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Add effect of measured spindle runout on calculated feed and speed.

If I know the spindle runout it would be nice if calculator had an option to input that value and take it into account for all calculations. It could compute the best combination of speed and feed to maximize chances of success. It is especially useful for users with smaller CNC routers like Shapeoko.

      • User Machine List

Be able to have a short list of machines that hide all the other machine profiles other than the ones that the user actually has.

Ex, I have 3 VMCs, 1 Lathe all by different manufacturers.

It is time consuming to scroll through the list to find those machines.

Any current workaround until such functionality is added?

            • Any Future Support for LinuxCNC o-code?

I was wondering if you were planning any support for LinuxCNC subroutines?

                • Feeds and Speeds - Dovetail Cutters

It would be quite handy to have a dovetail cutter option under Tool, in the Feeds/Speeds section.

Love the product, keep up the great work!

                  • Selectable RPM's for geared head speeds on Mills and Lathes in G-Wizard Machinists Calculator

I run a Geared Head Warco 10-24 from c.1984, she's a good little precision machine, with a 2 speed motor and 9 gears, I would prefer to be able to assign a fixed N° of gears (In my case 18) and be able to assign a speed to each (e.g. 45, 90, etc, etc, 1520, 3000rpm's)

Then when I am running speeds and feeds calculations in that machines profile a simple Java option on screen to show "Optimum RPM" or "Users Machine Nearest Available RPM"

From this, I would then expect to see recommended mm/rev or mm/min for mills.

                    May not…

                    • Move the share bar for facebook, twitter, etc.

The moving menu bar for sharing facebook, twitter, etc., blocks vertical your menus, requiring one to vertically scroll more than needed. It would be best located somewhere else.

                      • Support LinuxCNC G5.1

LinuxCNC supports and PathPilot uses G5.1

                        ---
                        G5.1 Quadratic Spline
                        G5.1 X- Y- I- J-
I - X incremental offset from start point to control point

J - Y incremental offset from start point to control point

G5.1 creates a quadratic B-spline in the XY plane with the X and Y axis only. Not specifying I or J gives zero offset for the unspecified axis, so one or both must be given.

                        • Table of Feeds and Speeds for Specific Machining Operations.

Often times the same endmill is used for multiple operations such as facing, adaptive roughing, pocketing, slotting and finishing/profiling etc. It would be very convenient and efficient to generate a table for the feeds and speeds for each specific milling operation. I often find myself recomputing the feeds and speeds for the end mill on the same job. By providing a table with all this information once can even make a screen grab and put it in a reference manual for future use.

                          • Make adding new G/M code easier

I think this is more of a bug fix than an idea. It is difficult to make new G codes without overriding existing ones. It's like changing G/M code # doesn't actually apply to that number but to the code that was last highlighted in the list.

                              • Improve Backploter preview environment

It is currently hard to navigate the 3D simulation screen. It is easy to scroll the toolpath out of view. It would be nice to have a reference object such as a table (size to machine selection). Make grid line more transparent and create a clear origin marker for machine home position and a smaller one for work coordinate position

                                • TiB2 coatings support for the Machinists calculator

Currently you have no support for this coating, and you are apparently 'aware' that tool deflection is dramatically affected by tool incidental surface friction... your software shows adjustments to tool deflection as the various 'available' coatings are overlaid on a tool.

                                      • RPM converter for manual spindle controllers

There are people amongst us who use manual spindle control. That means, that some of those are controlled via certain dials or PWM values, that are proportional to the output RPM.
For example I use a chinese spindle controller with a dial from 0 to 400, which represents spindle speeds from 0 to 24000 RPM, that means that every time I get feed/speed from G-Wizard, I have to go in to excel or calculator, do a 400/24000*RPM to get what I have to actually set my controller to for a needed speed.

My suggestion would be to have this conversion…

                                        • labels for columns and add another hardness column

for the materials the column for hardness does not specify to which scale. I am assuming this column is brinell???

would be very nice to have an additional column for Rockwell hardness scale
